A context-dependent cost effectiveness indicator for software development

چکیده

Product quality, development productivity, and staffing needs are main cost drivers in software development. In particular the tension between productivity and quality makes it difficult to gauge the relative cost-effectiveness of a software development using separate quality and productivity measures. The paper proposes a one-stop cost-effectiveness indicator that resolves the tension between these two cost drivers, by combining productivity, quality, and staffing needs through an economic criterion. Contextspecific instances of the indicator can be used as key performance measures to rank comparable software projects or as dependent variables to evaluate development techniques whose effectiveness hinge on the tradeoff between their relative productivity and quality benefits. The use of the indicator is demonstrated by applying it to the findings of two empirical studies.

Environmental problems indicator under environmental modeling toward sustainable development

This research aims to apply a model to the study and analysis of environmental and natural resource costs created in supply chains of goods and services produced in Thailand, and propose indicators for environmental problem management, caused by goods and services production, based on concepts of sustainable production and consumer behavior. The research showed that the highest environmental co...

Health Technology Assessment: Global Advocacy and Local Realities; Comment on “Priority Setting for Universal Health Coverage: We Need Evidence-Informed Deliberative Processes, Not Just More Evidence on Cost-Effectiveness”

Cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) can help countries attain and sustain universal health coverage (UHC), as long as it is context-specific and considered within deliberative processes at the country level. Institutionalising robust deliberative processes requires significant time and resources, however, and countries often begin by demanding evidence (including local CEA evidence as well as evi...

Economic evaluation of alternative indicators for screening for diabetes mellitus.

BACKGROUND the optimal indicator for screening for diabetes mellitus without relying on fasting conditions was clarified. METHODS the subjects were 891 men ages 26 through 80 years (48.5 +/- 8.5). The objectives of this study were (1) to elucidate the efficacy of 1,5-anhydroglucitol (1,5-AG), glycosylated hemoglobin, and fructosamine (FRA) as screening tests for non-insulin-dependent diabetes...

Impact of pair programming on thoroughness and fault detection effectiveness of unit test suites

Pair programming is regarded as one of the practices that can make testing more rigorous, thorough and effective. Therefore, we examined pair programming vs. solo programming with respect to both, thoroughness and fault detection effectiveness of test suites. Branch coverage and mutation score indicator were used as measures of how thoroughly tests exercise programs, and how effective they are,...
